Parents of children with special needs face many challenges when preparing for the time when they will no longer be around to care for their special needs child. Whether this is due to the parents’ own disability or their death’s, the responsibility will fall on the child’s siblings, other family members and the community. Improper planning can also jeopardize inheritance set aside to care for the special needs child as well as the government benefits they might be receiving.
A Special Needs Trust can protect the child’s government benefits and preserve their inheritance to improve their quality of life. We will also discuss how to determine the level of funding required to meet the child’s current and future need’s. Then we will look at some of the many different resources available to fund the trust.
